McLean Youth Soccer's '96 Green team reunited over the summer of 2016 to stay in shape for the upcoming college soccer season and one thing led to another...
After winning the U19 Virginia State Cup in early June, the team traveled to Barboursville, West Virginia, to compete in the U19 Region I Championships from July 1-5. Composed primarily of players who have finished their first year of collegiate soccer (along with a few who will start school this coming Fall), McLean '96 Green finished 3-0-1, scoring 17 goals and conceding six in a total of four games and qualifying to head to Frisco, TX, July 25-30, to compete for the U19 national title.
After winning two games and losing one in group play, the team advanced to the Final match on July 30 to face SoCal Blues, but suffered a loss and settled as Finalists. Head Coach Nadir Moumen, who trained the team since its inception in 2011, has now seen his squad finish as Champions (U16, U18, and U19) and Semi-Finalists (U17) in four consecutive Virginia State Cups, as Champions (U19) and Finalists (U18) in two Region I Championships, as ECNL National Semifinalists (U18), as ECNL Mid-Atlantic Conference Champions (U16, U17 and U18) and now as USYS National Finalists (U19). At Nationals, two team members—Julia Suarez and Sara Grace DeGooyer—were selected for the Best XI squad (voted in by the coaches of opposing teams).
