Constant Named POY Second Year in a Row
June 18, 2018

Claire Constant, a graduate of T.C. Williams High School, was named 2017-18 Gatorade Virginia Girls’ Soccer Player of the Year. This is the second time she has won the coveted award—she also earned the title for the 2016-17 season.

Constant plays club ball for McLean Youth Soccer’s U18 ECNL team, coached by Total Futbol Executive Director Nadir Moumen, but she claimed the Gatorade honor after scoring 23 goals and providing 13 assists for T.C. Williams’ Girls Varsity Soccer team. Constant led the Titans (18-2) to the Class 6 Region C tournament semifinals and was a repeat All-State Team selection. She was also named Spring 2018 All-Met Player of the Year by The Washington Post. She will launch her college soccer career at the University of Virginia in just a few short weeks.

The T.C. Williams Titans were Champions of the Gunston District and advanced to the regional semifinals in spring 2018. Claire Constant (in center of both photos) scored
23 goals and provided 13 assists.

According to the Gatorade Company, the Player of the Year award recognizes “not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field.” Constant has maintained a 3.31 GPA in school and volunteered locally for the Haiti Micah Project, a non-profit that feeds and educates impoverished children in Haiti.

Every state Gatorade Player of the Year receives a $1,000 grant to donate to a national or local youth sports organization of their choosing as part of the Gatorade Pay It Forward program.

Last year, Constant donated her $1,000 to DC SCORES, a program that forms neighborhood soccer teams while providing complementary academic and arts enrichment activities, such as the group’s popular “Poetry Slams.” DC SCORES currently serves 2,500 children across all eight wards of Washington, DC. According to the organization, $1,000 is enough to provide a full year of programming for an at-risk child in the District.

Constant was named Girls ECNL Player of the Year for 2017-18.
