College Soccer Update
August 23, 2019

From left to right: Aleigh Gambone, now a North Carolina Tar Heel, celebrates with two of her Club coaches, TF's Nadir Moumen (left) and Howard University Head Women's Soccer Coach Brent Leiba (right); UVA's newest goalkeeper Cayla White celebrates on signing day; Kendall Robertson with Moumen—she now plays for Rice University.

Since 2012, 134 players coached by Total Futbol have gone on to play (or have committed to play) soccer in college: 108 athletes for Division I programs and 26 for Division II or III programs. As a point of reference, nationally a mere 2.4% of female high school athletes move on to play DI soccer, and about 4.8% move on to DII or DIII soccer. We offer a quick update here on what's been happening with college commitments and transfers, but check out our  College Soccer Page for the big picture!

At left, Alabama freshman Serena Pham (#20) started in the Crimson Tide's season opener on August 22; At right, Tar Heel Aleigh Gambone (#16) also started in her team's season opener (also on August 22) and she provided an assist to boot!

From left to right: Wisconsin's starting lineup in the first game of the season included Macy Monticello, a player formerly coached by TF; Julia Leas not only started her first college game but also scored a goal; JMU's Mia Pham exhibited some skills worthy of a tweet (in the game versus her former teammate Leas!) in her debut as a college starter.

Class of 2020 is Racking Up the Commitments

To date, the Class of 2020 has seen 15 players commit to their college of choice. We'll see what the future holds. And the Class of 2021 has already kicked into gear with two commitments (see College Soccer Page).

Class of 2015 is Not Quite Finished Yet

Two players from the Class of 2015 (most of whom graduated in 2019) who missed a college season due to injury have transferred to new schools for their final year of eligibility.

Lauren Harkes transferred from Clemson to Creighton for the Fall 2019 season and her final college soccer games. She will wear the #8 jersey for Creighton and is shown at the far left in both pictures with her new teammates.

Lorato Sargent transferred from Virginia to Arizona State to play as a Sun Devil for her final year. She is at the far left, front row, in the team picture. On August 22, in her first game as a Sun Devil (and a starter), she scored a goal.
