Very successful Columbus Day Tournament Weekend for 7 Total Futbol teams

Columbus Day 2014 was a very successful weekend for the club.  Five Total Futbol teams finished as Champions or Finalists and two others finished as Semi-Finalists in various Columbus Day Tournaments.

Columbus Day 2014 was a very successful weekend for the club.  Seven teams playing across five tournaments walked away with placements ranging from Champions to semifinalists on the weekend.

McLean Force was Total Futbol’s lone participant at the Discovery Cup and they had another fantastic weekend, leaving the rest of the field behind to win another championship.  Things began slowly with a 1-0 win in their first game, but the team hit their stride quickly after that, cruising to a 7-0 victory in their second match of the day.

They faced a tougher test on Sunday morning, winning 3-2 to grab their place in the finals opposite FC Frederick ’96.  The group prevailed 4-0 in the championship to add another accomplishment to their resume.

Herndon United and Chantilly Storm both participated in their last year of championship play at the WAGS tournament before they move to the Showcase format at U16.  United played in the Cup flight and won their group of 4 to advance to the semi-finals where they were ousted by eventual champion FC Pennsylvania.  Storm advanced to the semifinals of the B Flight before falling to the eventual champion Blue Angles from New York.

Herndon FC Elite played in the SAC Columbus Day tournament and finished the weekend in 2nd place.  The boys ran the table in their three preliminary games, with a couple shutout wins on Saturday putting them in strong position for Sunday.  Their final group game was a 3-1 win which clinched them a spot in the finals against Penn Fusion.  The championship game was a hard-fought contest, and unfortunately the boys were on the wrong side of a 1-0 scoreline, settling for finalists on the weekend.

The Chantilly Cyclones traveled down to Virginia Beach to play over Columbus Day and came away with their first championship since joining the Total Futbol program this summer.  The boys topped their group in convincing fashion on Saturday with 4-2 and 3-0 results to put them into the semifinals.  There, they won 5-3 to clinch a spot in the finals.  The goals continued to flow as they scored six times in the championship match to win 6-3.

Competing in the NVSC Battlefield tournament, Herndon Crossfire and Cugini Force White both brought home hardware.

The Crossfire kept a clean sheet to go undefeated on the first day of the competition, advancing as the top seed to Sunday’s semifinals.  1-0 winners there, they faced SYC Fury in the championship who was undefeated and hadn’t been scored on the entire weekend.  The girls captured a 2-0 shutout win and the championship along with it.

Cugini Force White also went undefeated on the first day of play, setting them up for a semifinal game against VYS Magic Red.  Force came out with a 2-0 win in that game to advance to the championship match.  The girls were able to find the back of the net once in the final, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough for a win as the 3-1 result placed them in second.

All in all it was a fantastic weekend for Total Futbol and so many of our players.
