Total Futbol Teams Raise $1,810 for Breast Cancer

Continuing a tradition that began in 2015, Total Futbol teams purchased and wore special training tees in October to raise funds for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. And they nearly doubled the funds raised, from $1,100 in 2015 to $1,810 this year. While last year’s monies went to the Susan G. Komen organization for breast cancer research, this year, Total Futbol Director Nadir Moumen presented a check to Amy Richards, Leadership Giving Director of Life with Cancer®. Check out the pictures below of our many teams participating in this annual tradition.

Life with Cancer®, a program of the Inova Schar Cancer Institute in Falls Church, VA, offers cancer education and support to patients, survivors and their families to help individuals cope with cancer, its treatments, and survivorship in the best possible way. It offers programs, counseling and other services at no cost and receives 80 percent of its funding through community philanthropy. Bravo to our players and teams who helped raise funds for this worthy cause!

2nd Annual Golf Tournment Raises Funds for Cancer & Financial Aid

We traded soccer balls for golf balls and raised more than $8,000

The Second Annual Total Futbol Golf Tournament was a resounding success, raising more than $8,000 through the generous donations and participation of many TF families, friends and supporters. The event raised $1,000 for the Red Card Cancer research organization (www.redcardcancer.org) and $7,466 for scholarships to support players who need financial aid in order to participate in travel soccer. Taking place on May 13, 2016, at Reston National Golf Course in Reston, Virginia, the TF tournament was followed by a buffet lunch that honored our outgoing senior class.

Community Service Math: 29 Players + 3 Coaches = 274 Sandwiches

Question: What do you get when 27 Total Futbol players, three coaches and a handful of parents come together in TF Event Coordinator Shirl Sayadian's kitchen on a Saturday afternoon in December? Answer: Hundreds of sandwiches for Martha's Table, of course.

In the spirit of holiday giving, our players spent the afternoon of December 12 making sandwiches and then delivered 274 of them to the D.C.-based nonprofit organization the very same day (plus three large jars of jelly and six large jars of peanut butter). Martha's Table was established in 1968 to increase access to healthy starts, healthy eating, and healthy connections for children and families in need in the Washington, DC area. Many thanks to the sandwich crew!

Cornerstones' Winter Coat Closet Drive Nets 29 Gently Used TF Coats

On December 13, Total Futbol delivered 29 gently used coats (including a black sparkly one!) and dozens of new mittens, gloves and hats to the Winter Coat Closet clothing drive run by Cornerstones, a Reston, VA nonprofit organization that promotes self-sufficiency by providing support and advocacy for those in need of food, shelter, affordable housing, quality childcare and other human services.

Many thanks to Shirl, who masterminded these (and all other) Total Futbol community service projects!

Other Team Projects & Giving in 2015

During the last two weeks of October 2015, fourteen Total Futbol teams participated in a fundraising drive as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The teams purchased and wore special pink training tees and donated more than $1,100 in proceeds to the non-profit Susan G. Komen organization.

The VYS Thunder Black (U17 Girls) team held a bake sale on Sunday, September 13, 2015, to raise money for new uniforms. They donated all their leftover treats to the Oakton Fire Station in Fairfax, VA, who were reportedly very pleased to receive them!
