FPYC Blue Fuego Capture 2015 Liberty Cup

March 22, 2015

FPYC Blue Fuego captured their first tournament title as they went undefeated at the 2015 FPYC Liberty Cup.  This is the first year for the Blue Fuego being coached by Dustin and Total Futbol.

Fuego’s tournament started with a hard fought game against VYS Pride White.  The first goal belonged to FPYC but they allowed VYS to come back in the second half and tie the game. The girls once again fired their way into the lead but Vienna equalized in the last minute goal to end the game at 2-2. Focused from how that game finished, the team improved their defensive resolve and did not concede another goal for the entire tournament.  In their second game they got their first ever win against long time rivals VISA United finishing the game 1-0.

Sunday morning’s group game saw the championship berth still up in the air and Fuego knew they needed a win or tie to place first in their group. Fuego was able to comfortably secure a 2-0 win that saw them dominate the possession battle. The team was able to take that momentum into the finals against a tough Reston Renegades side. A physical battle throughout, both teams played hard throughout the contest for the championship.  Blue Fuego prevailed, earning a hard-fought 1-0 victory to take the game and the tournament title.
