HYS FC Elite Win the Marylander Tournament

March 15, 2015

HYS FC Elite added more hardware to their medal collection by winning the Marylander Tournament in beautiful St. Mary's County, Maryland.

The weekend started out ominously with a poor showing in the early Saturday game, and the boys losing to one of the host St. Mary's teams.  FC Elite rebounded for a resounding victory in the second game, which gave them a 2nd place ranking for their bracket and gave them the chance to play the winner of the other bracket in the semi-finals on Sunday morning.

In the semi-final match, FC Elite faced a higher division opponent from St. Mary's County.  Both teams fought hard but mid-way through the second half FC Elite struck first for the only goal of the game, giving them the victory and the chance to play for the championship.

The team hoped for a shot at a rematch against the team that beat them in the first game of the tournament, but the other semi-final ended with Potomac Hotspur upsetting Elite's first opponent.  Facing a regular season divisional rival, FC Elite were more than up for the task by winning the game 2-0 for a clean sheet Championship Sunday.

The Marylander trophy was the third trophy HYS FC Elite won in March. Coach Dan and the boys also took home two trophies by winning both U14 indoor soccer divisions at Dulles Sportsplex in Sterling, VA.
